Benchmarking report
Project overview
In 2018, the League of American Bicyclists (the League) absorbed a project previously led by the Alliance for Biking and Walking to publish benchmarking data and analysis for biking and walking in the United States, in partnership with the CDC’s Active People, Healthy Nation initiative. As part of this transition, the report needed a redesign to better reflect the League’s ownership of the initiative.
- Increase in federal funding: Completion of the report successfully led the League to a renewed contract and additional funding with the CDC.
- Designed for scale: Creating over a dozen custom page and spread templates made designing the 416-page report more efficient. Each template was crafted to meet specific layout needs and could be tailored for the report’s five main chapters, ensuring a cohesive design throughout.
Role in project
For the 2018 edition, I worked closely with the League’s Policy Director to fully design the report, including but not limited to spread and page layout templates, InDesign paragraph and character styling, and chart, graph, and table designs. The League provided the final report copy and data, and shared their photo gallery and brand guidelines. We met frequently throughout the project to ensure we were on track to meet the contract’s required publishing timeline.
